Home & Community Based Early Interventionists
Amy Jenkins has a Master’s Degree in Education and began working with children and their families in 1992. She is the director of the Home & Community-Based Early Intervention Program at Siskin Children’s Institute. She supervises the home visitors who are collectively serving more than 250 families at any one time, in the 10 counties of the Southeast District of Tennessee. Amy is a certified Routines Based Interview trainer (2010), a certified Routines-Based Home Visiting Trainer and has coordinated and presented during the Routines-Based Interview Certification Institute since 2012, as well as the newly added Routines-Based Home Visiting Training Institute (2015). She presents at numerous conferences across Tennessee in Routines-Based Early Intervention and other early childhood and early intervention topics and is currently providing training and technical assistance to Tennessee and other states on evidence-based best practices.Each holiday season, Amy leads Lexi’s Legacy, a program designed to help needy families with gifts at Christmas. She was selected by Governor Haslam to sit on the State Interagency Coordinating Council for Tennessee, where she serves as Vice President, and is currently a member of several professional organizations and boards. Amy is a member of the Southeast Tennessee Interagency Council and a member of the TEIS ChildFind committee. She also serves as director of Early Intervention Behavior Specialist Program for the Institute. Amy grew up in Chattanooga and lives there with her husband and teenage daughter.
Susan is a resident of Riceville, Tennessee, and taught for Meigs County Schools for 32 years. She has been affiliated with early intervention since 2000. She has one daughter and one precious granddaughter. Susan has a Bachelor of Science in education with a focus in elementary education, early childhood special education from Tennessee Technological University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Jill has eight years of experience as a home visitor under Tennessee's Early Intervention System in Hamilton County and surrounding counties. She received her BS degree in plant science in the College of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and was director of 4-H programs with the Agricultural Extension Service. She found her interest in working with children with disabilities and obtained her masters degree in special education focusing on early childhood.
Julie and her family moved to Chattanooga from Clarksville, Tennessee, where she also worked as an early interventionist. She enjoys working with young children and their families and considers it a privilege to be part of supporting their growth and development. She holds a bachelor's degree in health promotion from Southern Oregon University and a master's degree in interdisciplinary early childhood education from Western Kentucky University. Julie is married and has four children.
Shandra is from Madisonville, Tennessee. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in child and family studies. Shandra moved to Cleveland, Tennessee, in 1985 and worked at the Dept. of Children's Services (DCS) in the foster care unit for eight years. She took several years off from work to be a stay-at-home mom. Shandra began working part time again with the DCS with adoption services in 2000. In 2002 she began working with TIPS as a parent adviser, which then turned into a part time position with TEIS as an early interventionist (EI). In July 2010 Shandra began a full time position as an EI with Siskin Children's Institute. She has two children: a daughter, 18, who attend college and a son, 15, who is in 10th grade. Shandra enjoys spending time with her children.
Carol came to Siskin Children's Institute with 17 years of home visiting experience, eleven of those working with families with young children. She is very excited to be working at the Institute and truly enjoys watching not only the children grow and develop but being there for parents when they have those "aha" moments! Carol has a husband and a 16 year old son. She has a A.S. in general education: health, P.E. and recreation from Chattanooga State Technical Community College and a B.S.in human ecology: child and family studies from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Deidra has a Master's of Early Special Education and began her career as a classroom teacher. She has worked as an early interventionist for eight years and truly loves that her job is all about helping and supporting families. Deidra has three children of her own who keep her very busy! Her B.A. in English and education is from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee and her early childhood certification is from the University of Texas, Arlington. Deidra is working currently on a master's degree in early childhood special education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Beth has spent her professional career working with families of young children. Opportunities for her work have been through The Parents' Place, the adjunct faculty programs at Chattanooga State and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and currently at Siskin Children's Institute, serving as an early interventionist.
Diana has taught in a special education classroom, worked as a teacher of children with visual impairments and has worked as an early home interventionist. Her certifications are in elementary education, special education, and education of visually impaired. She is married and has three children.
Catherine Millard is the newest addition to our Early Interventionists. Prior to being an early interventionist, Catherine was a classroom teacher in the Siskin Early Learning Center. She enjoys building relationships with families and considers it an incredible opportunity to be a part of their lives during their child's early years. Catherine has a bachelor's degree in music education from Presbyterian College(Clinton, SC) and a master's degree in special education from UTC. She is married and originally from Chattanooga.
