Siskin Children’s Institute Announces Kevin Costner & Modern West as Headliner for StarNight 2016
Proceeds will benefit children with special needs and their families served by the Institute
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Siskin Children’s Institute is excited to announce that Kevin Costner & Modern West will headline StarNight 2016. The event, held on Saturday, August 20 at the Chattanooga Convention Center with co-chairs Bill and Mary Kilbride, will welcome approximately 1500 guests. StarNight, Chattanooga’s premier gala event now in its 54th year, supports Siskin Children’s Institute’s efforts on behalf of children with special needs and their families.
The famed actor and director of Oscar nominated films including Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves, The Bodyguard and JFK, among others, and the acclaimed History Channel mini-series, Hatfields & McCoys, will headline StarNight 2016 with his band, Kevin Costner & Modern West, a rock/country band formed with encouragement from Costner’s wife. The group, who began touring worldwide in October 2007, is made up primarily of Kevin Costner, Blair Forward, John Coinman, Teddy Morgan, Larry Cobb, Park Chisolm, with occasional guests Roddy Chong, Bobby Yang, and Luke Bulla. “I always thought that music could build a stronger, more personal moment for me. It would create the opportunity for a genuine exchange much greater than the movie, TV interview or magazine,” Costner says.
The band released its first album, Untold Truths in 2008, followed by their second album Turn It On in 2010. Shortly after, Kevin Costner & Modern West toured Europe with the album charting in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Greece. From Where I Stand, the bands third album was released in 2011 and included vocals from the German pop singer Nena. Kevin Costner & Modern West continue to tour, playing shows across the United States and abroad.
Bill and Mary Kilbride will serve as this year’s event co-chairs. “We’re excited to have Bill and Mary as this year’s StarNight co-chairs”, says Institute President and CEO, John Farrimond. “With such a long history of supporting philanthropic causes in the Chattanooga area,we couldn’t be more proud to have them on our team for StarNight.”
