12/02/2009 - Second Portuguese student studies at the Institute

Rita Moiteiro, a Portuguese scholar in training, is studying at Siskin Children's Institute during December. She is currently a research assistant at the University of Lisbon in Portugal, and she has just been accepted into the doctoral program at the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada, also in Portugal. Rita is receiving tutoring from the Institute's director of research, Robin McWilliam, Ph.D., on her doctoral project on social relationships of children with Down syndrome. Dr. McWilliam is taking Rita to Vanderbilt University in Nashville for a day to consult with faculty there.

Rita is the second Portuguse student to study at the Institute this fall. Tania Boavida Silva is a doctoral student from the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada. Dr. McWilliam serves as her advisor in the United States.
