11/06/06 - Institute debuts new fall playhouse event
Date: November 6, 2006 Siskin Debuts New Fall Playhouse Event If you enjoy fun, family-friendly competition and the chance to help out a good cause, you don’t want to miss Project Playhouse for Siskin Children’s Institute. Admission is free to this first-ever event, being held on Sunday, November 19 from Noon to 5 p.m. Project Playhouse is designed to take advantage of the popularity of television shows like Extreme Makeover. At the event, teams of local builders and other industry professionals will compete in a live building competition to create one-of-a-kind playhouses. From noon to 4:30, attendees can gather to watch the play structures come to life as building teams hammer, saw, shingle, paint and apply finishing touches. Perhaps the best part of Project Playhouse is that a silent auction for the playhouses will take place throughout the day. The event is timed for November so that parents and grandparents can purchase a unique gift for the kids in their family just in time for the holidays. Schools, day care centers and religious organizations can also get in on the bidding. The houses will be accessible to children of all abilities, and all proceeds benefit Siskin Children’s Institute. “Project Playhouse is the perfect fit for Siskin Children’s Institute,” says Jerry Jensen, president of the Institute. “We are thrilled to be involved in an event that promotes the importance of play for children of all abilities while also raising funds to help us offer programs and services for children with special needs.” All builders who participate in the event will create innovative, universally designed playhouses for children under 12 years of age. During the competition, the building teams will compete for the Professionals' Show Award and People's Choice Award. Sponsors of Project Playhouse for Siskin Children’s Institute include the Remodelors’ Council of the Chattanooga Home Builders Association. Participating builders include the Remodelors’ Council and J. Brewer & Associates, Inc. Project Playhouse will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on November 19 at the Chattanooga Market at First Tennessee Pavilion at 1826 Carter St. Admission and parking are free.
