Children with special needs who are younger than age 3 (birth through two years of age) are placed at the Siskin Early Learning Centers by Tennessee’s Early Intervention System (TEIS). Therefore, we do not maintain an applicant list or accept enrollment on a private-pay basis.
TEIS's Process for Enrollment
- Children with or who might have a disability can be referred to TEIS by parents or professionals such as physicians, educators and therapists. Once referred, a TEIS service coordinator will be assigned to the child. The coordinator will schedule a meeting with the family to gather information and determine if the child needs assessment. If assessment is necessary, a Routines-Based Interview is conducted with the family, which allows TEIS to develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). The IFSP outlines the appropriate services the child needs.
- If one of the learning centers is considered a proper placement — and if the centers have an open spot for the child — TEIS’s service coordinator will refer the child to one of the centers. If the child’s family approves of the placement, the registration process will be completed.
