Siskin Lending Library

Providing resources and guidance to families and professionals across the country

Our free lending library is a place where families and professionals can find current resources on parenting and educating children with special needs. The library houses a growing collection of more than 5,000 books, DVDs, videos and periodicals on child development and disability-related topics. Our staff can help you research a topic, select the right books, browse our library catalog or use one of our computer work stations.

Can't make it in to our library? That's okay! We can suggest helpful resources over the phone, send information via email, or even mail you the resources you need - free of charge! Our librarian can help you no matter where you live.

Book of the Month

Although it's not really a book, this sign language series, formerly a TV show,  is the most popular resource in our library. It features Rachel Coleman, who teaches ASL signs for young children of all verbal abilities using music and footage of children using the signs themselves. Children love them, and as they watch again and again...and again...parents and siblings learn the signs as well, opening up new communication for the whole family. Fringe benefit? For children who are not yet using language, this can mean a huge reduction in frustration and temper tantrums!
