VSM Videos

Do you know what Video Self-Modeling is? If not, watch this video! It's a technique that can be used to enhance or promote higher functioning of a child's behavior. Tom Buggey, Ph.D., of Siskin Children's Institute will explain how the technique works along with examples of VSM videos of children at the Institute.

This is an example of a Video Self-Modeling project used to promote social interactions by a young girl with autism. Notice how we label the behavior at the beginning ("This is Lillian's movie. Let's watch Lillian playing nicely with her friends"). This is followed by cheering/clapping. We label the behavior at the end, too ("Nice job Playing with your friends, Lillian!") followed by positive reinforcement (cheers/clapping). The music background that we sometimes use is completely optional. We have shown the same videos with and without light background music and have detected no difference.

This is a recent news segment on VSM and autism.

This is a video Dr. Buggey created to assist a young child who was a finicky eater.
