Meet the Early Interventionists

Home- and Community- Based Early Interventionists

Amy Jenkins
amy.jenkins@siskin.org

Amy is a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, and has worked with children and families for over 18 years.  She has a Masters degree in Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and is a National Certified Counselor as well.  Amy is married and has 2 grown children, and 1 teenager.  She is the coordinator of the Home –and Community-Based Early Intervention program, but also handles a small caseload as working with the families is her true passion!

 

 

Susan Barnett

Susan is a resident of Riceville, Tenn., and taught for Meigs County schools for 32 years. She has been affiliated with early intervention since 2000.  She has one daughter  and one precious granddaughter. Susan has a Bachelor of Science in education with a focus in elementary education, early childhood special education from Tennessee Technological University  and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

 

Jill Hammon

Jill has eight years of experience as a home visitor under Tennessee's Early Intervention System in Hamilton County and surrounding counties. She received her BS degree in plant science in the College of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and was director of 4-H programs with the Agricultural Extension Service. She found her interest in working with children with disabilities and obtained her masters degree in special education focusing on early childhood.  
 





 


Julie Hill

Julie and her family moved to Chattanooga from Clarksville, Tenn., where she also worked as an early interventionist. She enjoys working with young children and their families and considers it a privilege to be part of supporting their growth and development. She holds a bachelor's degree in health promotion from Southern Oregon University and a master's degree in interdisciplinary early childhood education from Western Kentucky University. Julie is married and has four children.  




 

 


 

 

 

Shandra Jones

Shandra is from Madisonville, Tenn. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in child and family studies. Shandra moved to Cleveland, Tenn., in 1985 and worked at DCS in the foster care unit for eight years. She took several years off from work to be a stay at home mom. Shandra began working part time again with the DCS with adoption services in 2000. In 2002 she began working with TIPS as a parent advisor, which then turned into a part time position with TEIS as an early interventionist (EI). In July 2010 Shandra began a full time position as an EI with Siskin Children's Institute. She has two children: a daughter, 18, who attends college and a son, 15, who is in 10th grade. Shandra enjoys spending time with her children.
  

 

Carol Lee

Carol came to Siskin Children's Institute with 17 years of home visiting experience, eleven of those working with families with young children. She is very excited to be working at the Institute and truly enjoys watching not only the children grow and develop but being there for parents when they have those "aha" moments! Carol has a husband and a 16 year old son. She has a A.S. in general education: health, P.E. and recreation from Chattanooga State Technical Community College and a B.S. in human ecology: child and family studies from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
 

 

Deidra Love

Deidra has a Bachelors of Arts in education and began her career as a classroom teacher. She has worked as an early interventionist for eight years and truly loves that her job is all about helping and supporting families. Deidra has three children of her own who keep her very busy! Her B.A. in English and education is from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. and her early childhood certification is from the University of Texas, Arlington. Deidra is working currently on a master's degree in early childhood special education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
  

 

Beth Oldham

Beth has spent her professional career working with families of young children. Opportunities for her work have been through The Parents' Place, the adjunct faculty programs at Chattanooga State and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and currently at Siskin Children's Institute, serving as early interventionist and community resource specialist.
 

 

Diana Parker
Diana.Parker@siskin.org

Diana has taught in a special education classroom, worked as a teacher of children with visual impairments and has worked as an early home interventionist. Her certifications are in elementary education, special education, and education of visually impaired. She is married and has three children.
