Community workshops

Siskin Children's Institute is happy to support children and families by providing workshops that build skills and community. Workshops vary and are open to all families including those not currently receiving services at the Institute unless otherwise noted. See below for a current list of available workshops.

   June 17 |Finding Balance: Screen Time

Technology is often interesting and exciting, however, when kids use it too much and inappropriately, it can get in the way of healthy child development. Are you worried that your kids use technology too much? Are you concerned that cell phones, tablets, and video games are decreasing your children’s positive behaviors and communication skills? Come and learn how to manage and encourage healthy use of technology by children. 

   June 22 | Make It & Take It: Developing  Visual  Supports

Siskin Children's Institute is proud to partner with the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's  Treatment & Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) program and the Chattanooga Autism Center to provide  free workshops for parents of young children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.   

  * June 24 - July 3 | Handwriting Readiness  

Led by an occupational therapist, this workshop is ideal for preschool aged children between the ages of four and six years old and will provide a developmentally appropriate approach to handwriting using the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum.

   June 24- June 28 |Communication Devices, A Workshop Series for Parents

Join Mallory Sliger, speech pathologist, as she provides parents of children utilizing augmentative and alternative communication devices a opportunity to learn how to successfully incorporate it into a child's daily life. Parents will gain knowledge and skills that they will be able to easily introduce at home to foster better communication with their child.
