   March 14, 2020 | Teaching Safety Skills - CANCELED

Due to the Coronavirus concerns in Nashville, TN and beyond the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center has canceled this workshop. Please check this page for rescheduled workshops in the coming months.

The focus of this workshop is on promoting safety for your child in the community. The first part of the workshop emphasizes safeguards that can be put into place in the community immediately, as it is important that your child is in a safe environment while they are still learning safety skills. The latter part of the workshop will focus on teaching community safety skills, such as “wait” and “stay with me,” that can be carried on as children age and engage in a variety of experiences.

Siskin Children's Institute is proud to partner with the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's  Treatment & Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) program and the Chattanooga Autism Center to provide  free workshops for parents of young children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.      (Please Note- Due to capacity limits, childcare is available for children under age 10 and for up to 4 children per family)

   April 18, 2020 | Addressing Challenging Behavior -  CANCELED

Due to the Coronavirus concerns in Nashville, TN and beyond the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center has canceled this workshop. Please check this page for rescheduled workshops in the coming months.

In this workshop, we will provide a framework for understanding the influences on challenging behavior, so parents are more effectively able to identify and address triggers. This presentation examines both preventative and reactive strategies in the management of challenging behavior. We will provide suggestions for structuring the environment (including our behavior) in a way that promotes appropriate behavior, identifying and teaching appropriate replacement behaviors, and responding to difficult behavior in the moment.
