Siskin Children’s Institute pioneers early autism diagnosis tech in Chattanooga
Siskin Children’s Institute in Chattanooga has begun a pilot program for a technology than can diagnose autism in children as young as 16 months old, enabling providers to intervene earlier than the common diagnosis test.
Providers at Siskin, a nonprofit that treats children with special needs, began running tests in January with a device called EarliPoint, which is developed by a Minnesota-based company called EarliPoint Health.
This device works by playing videos on a tablet for children while tracking their eye movements at a rate of 120 times per second. The device is cleated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for clinical use in children ages 16 months to 30 months.
