EYE ON HEALTH: Siskin Children’s Institute Pediatric Physical Therapy

Siskin Children’s Institute now has another tool when it comes to helping children gain their independence. They have introduced a pediatric physical therapy program.

Neha Mehta, PT, MS, of Siskin Children’s Institute says, “Pediatric physical therapy is really unique in that we have to make therapy fun. We use play-based therapeutic exercises to engage the child, because we see children all the way from birth through teenage years.”

Mehta says they adapt and modify their sessions based on the individual’s needs, but they always focus on making it fun:

“The great part about pediatric physical therapy is our brains, when we’re young, have such a tremendous capability to adapt.”

Research has shown that our brains are so much more effective at learning new skills, especially in those first five years of life, which is why it is important to get your child in PT if you notice anything that doesn’t seem right.
